VIDEO - The Mystery Force LIVE in SAE College
Word of The Mystery Force is travelling and not so long ago we were asked by the good men that live over at Liverpool's SAE College in Pall Mall - Adam Lowe and Mike Mooney - to come and a live session of a song or two for the cameras.
Naturally we jumped at the chance...even though The Mystery Force had never actually played altogether with all working instruments before. Until then there had been no electric guitar in the mix and just a couple of jams with all four of us.
TRUST in The Mystery Force though is essential to all we do.
The day went from morning to late afternoon with numerous takes of two songs - Zep Tepi (the one here) and Human Sacrifice which is soon to be the single (released in October) from the ep with the same title (released late November).
It's fair to say we got stuck right in no messing about and went for it. It was a pleasure to go so soon from makeshift rehearsal space to something a bit more prestigious with the added bonus it would be edited into a couple of decent videos we could share.
Everyone at SAE was sound. Adam Lowe pulled the strings before and after in the edit and was great to work with. They have worked with hordes of artists before now so again trust in their ability to carve out something that showed us in our best light was present.
The video lads too - sound and knew what they were doing.
There was always going to be the inevitable post sessions edits and re-edits and re-edits. This is the important process for artists - trying to express your sonic vision to the people with the controls who have their own interpretation. There is a tension that exists because telepathy is not yet possible. People can't hear what's in our heads and words just don't do ideas justice. Not 100% anyway. As soon as an idea is spoken it is immediately second hand and will only ever at best be a pale representation.
That said, we are delighted with the results. Really pleased. It's a great edit - both audio and video.
